The agency Triptyque incorporates the architecture permanent collection of the Pompidou Centre (Paris) with two projects in Brazil.
The acquisitions department of the Pompidou Centre just made official the addition of models and drawings of two architectural projects by Triptyque “Colombia 325 ” and ” Inhotim” in their collection.
One of the roles of an institution such as the Pompidou Centre in Paris is to write the History of the Arts beyond French borders. It is with this aim that the Pompidou Centre acquired Triptyque’s projects, celebrating Brazilian architectural creations. Both projects honor the values of Brazilian artisanal traditions associated with innovation, and the balance between built environment and nature.
The first building ” Colombia 325 “, was delivered in 2007 in the city of São Paulo in Brazil.
The building’s originality derives from its curved façade : a dematerialized surface, both glazed and adorned with wooden brise-soleil . This sinusoidal form is a contemporary interpretation of traditional sunscreens, so dear to the history of Brazilian architecture; it is a model of reconciliation between innovation and tradition. Triptyque architects have used both 3D modeling techniques and ancestral manufacturing techniques, to design and fabricate the cedar-wood slats.
Their manufacture was then entrusted to artisans in southern Brazil, where the wood is still cut, polished, processed and bent traditionally. Privilege of a country with preserved customs. This project will be represented in the Pompidou Centre collection of architecture through drawings and two models, one made of wood and other cardboard.
The second: ” Inhotim” is the project of construction for the future visitor centre of Inhotim Cultural
Institute, located in the heart of the Mata Atlântica (jungle) of Minas Gerais in Brazil. It is one of the new high places dedicated to contemporary art. Designed by Burle Marx, the one hundred hectares botanical garden of Inhotim hosts twenty pavilions and a collection of over 700 works and installations. Nature and art are symbiotic and make this place the most important Latin American art centre.
The simplicity of this architectural project comes from the balance between the natural shelter and space built, suggesting a reflection on the relationship between man and the environment, construction and architecture. The building without foundation, without doors or air conditioning was shown in a constant search to reduce its impact on the environment. It is self-sufficient in water and electricity. “Inhotim’s ” model is made of wood, stone and board, it is accompanied by drawings.
