Ká Coffee by Nguyen Khac Phuoc Architects, located on the outskirts of Vinh City near the Vsip industrial park, reimagines the local coffee shop with a focus on eco-friendly design and quality. Built on an 8x20m plot with a 5-year lease and a budget of 500 million VND, the project uses recyclable materials and quick construction methods. Its design features a two-roof tent structure with slender iron columns and a curved roof that creates a soft, inviting atmosphere. Recycled plywood and local firewood add warmth, while native plants and outdoor seating enhance a picnic-like feel. This project highlights low-cost, sustainable architecture adaptable for future models.
Ká Coffee offers a fresh approach to the local coffee shop concept by merging architectural aesthetics with high-quality beverages, creating a unique competitive edge. Set on an 8x20m plot with a 5-year lease and a modest investment cost of 500 million VND, the project is designed to optimize construction speed, minimize labor, and limit the use of concrete. The primary materials were chosen for their potential to be reused after the lease ends, allowing for the café to be relocated or reconstructed elsewhere if needed.
The architects adapted a two-roof tent form to create a distinctive spatial structure. Slender, white-painted round iron columns (d60) support the roof, giving it the appearance of a curtain that seems to dissolve into the space, softening the look of the iron. The curved roof extends from a low to a high point, creating a visual focal point that enhances the appeal and experience for customers.
Recycled plywood is used for the ceiling, while locally sourced firewood, commonly used for cooking, decorates the interior to create a cozy, rustic, and inviting atmosphere. The outdoor seating is divided into two areas—a front yard and a back yard—evoking the feel of a picnic-style coffee gathering in nature. Beyond the main roof structure, additional tarpaulin roofs can be added to accommodate flexible usage and expand the space as needed.
The shop is landscaped with locally sourced plants like elephant grass, elephant ears, bananas, and bamboo, adding regional character while keeping costs low. Furthermore, employing local workers for the construction further helps reduce building expenses.
Ká Coffee represents a model with distinctive qualities—environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and built with recyclable materials. It serves as a blueprint for future projects that the architects intend to pursue.
