The Sky SOHO leasing showroom, designed by GAP – Global Architectural Practical Architects, is located next to Hongqiao Airport in Zaha Hadid Architect’s only masterpiece in Shanghai. This project is a key development of SOHO China, with a total ground floor area of 350,000 m², expected to be completed in 2014.

The interior’s dynamic curves and soft edges can be viewed from the VIP drop-off area. Important guests are led to the showroom via a custom-designed VIP corridor.

The project includes three main elements: the VIP corridor, showroom interior, and interior furniture. These elements creates a seamless spatial experience, from exterior to interior, and from visual to corporeal. The VIP corridor receives guests from the drop-off zone on the ground level, providing a covered walkway towards the main building. The showroom, situated next to the elevator lobby, offers an unparalleled spatial experience.

The VIP corridor, designed with optimized repetitive structural elements, adapts to site conditions. The gaps between each element allow for views, lighting, and ventilation.

The showroom entrance, carved obliquely into the corridor next to the elevator lobby, features a curved glazing entrance. The interior design, inspired by skipping stones and splashing water, organizes functional zones into unique spatial conditions.

Using advanced computational technologies, the freeform furniture in the showroom synchronizes with its motif. The furniture pieces, designed for functionality and formal expression, resonate with the ceiling and carpet pattern, creating a united spatial-visual experience.

Natural curvatures and forms of the interior surfaces were realized through 3D design and fabrication methodologies. Integrated into the existing BIM model, the design ensured buildability. The black ceiling shapes, assembled from molded GRG pieces, were painted on-site. Furniture pieces were manufactured by 3D milling of hi-density foam, coated with FRP shelling, and finished with glossy paint. Carpet patterns and colors were directly weaved according to the digital model.
