Country: Germany

Aesop Grabenstraße, the tenth signature store in Germany and the second designed by Snøhetta, is situated in a bustling pedestrian plaza known for its markets and fairs. The design harmoniously blends interior and exterior spaces with subtle contrasts in materiality and form. Blonde-hued Douglas Fir shelving curves around the walls, resembling an amphitheater and creating a welcoming crescent shape. Downlights embedded in the ceiling mirror this form. A monolithic concrete sink, reminiscent of a public fountain, enhances the connection to the plaza. Timber benches with planter boxes just beyond the stone façade invite visitors to linger outside, reinforcing the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces.

The implicit extension of the plaza is emphasized by a monolithic concrete sink, evoking a fountain where locals might gather. An interior element extends beyond the stone façade, featuring two timber benches with planter boxes that invite visitors to sit and relax in the outdoor shade.

Snøhetta has also designed other Aesop stores, including those on Prinsens gate (Oslo), Homansbyen (Oslo), Fasanenstraße (Berlin), ION (Singapore), Raffles City (Singapore), Pitt Street (Sydney), and Duke of York Square (London).
