House DF is the renovation and expansion of an abandoned rural outbuilding in Belluno, Italy. MF Architettura approached the project through a careful balance of preservation and renewal, retaining the building’s rustic identity while introducing a more contemporary architectural language. Traditional materials and elements salvaged from the original structure reinforce the connection to the past, while clean lines and increased natural light give the house a clearer and more refined character. The intervention restores the neglected building without erasing the qualities that define its rural origins.

The relationship between the existing structure and the new intervention defines the House DF. Rather than replacing the outbuilding’s original character, MF Architettura reinterprets it through a restrained palette of traditional and recovered materials.

Contemporary additions introduce clarity through simple lines and a stronger presence of natural light. These elements contrast with the building’s rustic fabric while maintaining a sense of continuity.

House DF demonstrates how an abandoned rural structure can be adapted for new use while preserving its architectural memory.
