Paula House is a single-level residence located on the outskirts of São Paulo, designed by Luciano Kruk as an exercise in spatial integration with the surrounding landscape. Set within a planned development featuring an artificial lagoon and golf course, the house responds to its context through a low horizontal profile and careful volumetric control. The program is organized around a central courtyard planted with native Atlantic Forest vegetation, establishing a constant visual and environmental connection to nature. The residence includes four bedrooms, social areas, and an expansive gallery that acts as the primary living space, framing views while mediating sunlight through inclined concrete elements. A pool aligned with the main floor extends visual continuity with the lagoon, while concealed service areas below maintain the clarity of the architectural composition.

Paula House engages with the question of how large domestic architecture can achieve presence without imposing dominance, a challenge that underpins Luciano Kruk’s approach to this project. Rather than emphasizing scale, the design prioritizes perceptual lightness through horizontal continuity and the reduction of volumetric expression, allowing the house to settle into its environment with measured restraint.

The project is structured around a central courtyard that operates as both an organizational and environmental device. By incorporating native Atlantic Forest vegetation into the core of the plan, the design establishes an internal landscape that complements the broader surroundings. This strategy enables a balance between openness and privacy, creating layered spatial conditions that shift between outward views and inward reflection.

A defining architectural element is the gallery, positioned to capture the most advantageous views across the lagoon and golf course. This space reflects a regional mode of inhabitation in which interior and exterior conditions are closely intertwined. Its design responds to solar orientation through inclined concrete partitions that temper afternoon sunlight while preserving visual continuity, transforming the gallery into a primary setting for daily life.

The elevated pool reinforces the relationship between architecture and landscape. Positioned at the level of the main floor, it visually merges with the adjacent lagoon, extending the perception of water across the site. Its infinity edge introduces a cascading effect that gives the pool a sculptural presence when viewed from below, contributing to the experiential depth of the project.

Material restraint and clarity of form define the overall composition, supported by a collaborative process between architect, client, and contractor. The coordination required to execute a design of this precision is reflected in the final outcome, where each architectural gesture aligns with a coherent vision. Paula House ultimately presents a controlled yet expressive response to its context, shaped by both environmental considerations and a disciplined design approach.
