Residential Building ELIPSE, designed by Sadar+Vuga in Ljubljana, Slovenia, exemplifies a harmonious blend of residential and public spaces, enhancing the urban fabric. Completed between 2021 and 2024, the elliptical building offers 64 versatile apartments, varying in layout and size. The design emphasizes a duality, contrasting a serene northern faรงade with a lively southern side, influenced by Mediterranean and continental architectural styles. The project is further distinguished by its mint green ceramic faรงade and integrated outdoor spaces, including gardens, a playground, and a riverside promenade, offering a unique urban living experience.

The ELIPSE in Ljubljana, Slovenia, designed by Sadar+Vuga, represents a profit-oriented residential development that successfully integrates open, inclusive public spaces. Located on the edge of a triangular plot, the elliptical building establishes a dynamic relationship with its surroundings. An entry plaza, positioned between the inner city ring, a historical school, and the new structure, leads to covered arcades that connect to the buildingโ€™s entrances. On the eastern side, a garden with a children’s playground is a vital component of the residents’ outdoor living environment. A promenade along the river canal links the building to a nearby neighborhood, where garage and service entrances are also situated.

The Elipse features 64 apartments, each with a distinct connection to the outdoors. The elliptical shape accommodates various apartment typologies, including mini-lofts, duplexes, and traditional corridor-room layouts. The buildingโ€™s structural system enhances adaptability, allowing customization within each unit.

Apartment sizes range from one-bedroom flats with loggias to penthouses with expansive roof terraces. On the northern side, smaller apartments are designed to open each room to a loggia, promoting natural cross ventilation. The southern side of the building is defined by spacious, undulating balconies that contribute to the structure’s unique faรงade. Planters on these balconies are strategically placed to ensure privacy while offering views of the surrounding green hills.

The Elipse building embodies a dual architectural character: the northern side reflects a calm, continental influence, while the southern side exudes a vibrant, Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere. This duality is a deliberate reference to the buildingโ€™s location along the Fabiani inner ring, where Ljubljanaโ€™s combination of Mediterranean outdoor living and more formal Viennese residential architecture is evident.

The buildingโ€™s faรงade is clad in a distinct pattern of interlaced horizontal and vertical mint green ceramic tiles, reminiscent of a woven textile. This mint green theme extends into the interior spaces, including the entrance lobby and corridors. Inside, large wall lamps and ornamented ceramic tile floors further enhance the character of the Elipse’s common areas, creating a distinctive and engaging living environment.
