The Stöckliacker School Complex in Lohn-Ammannsegg expands the existing educational campus through the addition of a three-story timber building positioned between the double kindergarten and the multi-purpose facility along Friedhofstrasse. The project accommodates classrooms, kindergarten facilities, a day school, cultural spaces, and sports functions within a compact organizational framework that responds directly to the site’s topography. Open recreational areas, sports grounds, and a small natural woodland are integrated into the design, creating a diverse outdoor environment for students of different ages. The building establishes strong visual and physical connections to its surroundings through covered entrances, generous canopies, and direct access to multiple levels from the sloping terrain. By combining a lightweight timber structure with a carefully coordinated landscape strategy, the project strengthens the identity of the school campus while preserving openness and spatial continuity across the site.

The expansion of the Stöckliacker School Complex is conceived as an exercise in spatial balance, demonstrating how educational growth can occur without compromising the openness that defines the existing campus. Rather than dominating its surroundings, the new building is carefully positioned to complete the ensemble of school facilities while reinforcing the central outdoor space that serves as the heart of the complex. The intervention establishes a stronger sense of order across the site and creates a clear relationship between architecture, landscape, and community life.

Located between the double kindergarten and the existing multi-purpose building, the new structure helps define a generous interior open space capable of accommodating sports facilities, playgrounds, and informal gathering areas. Despite the increased density introduced by the project, broad sightlines across the campus remain uninterrupted, and comfortable distances to neighboring educational and residential buildings preserve a sense of visual openness. This approach allows the campus to grow while maintaining the spacious character that contributes to its educational environment.

The building responds directly to the site’s gentle slope, transforming a topographical condition into an architectural asset. Ground-level access is provided to both the school and the gallery level of the sports hall, improving circulation and creating intuitive connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. The three-story timber structure further reinforces this relationship through covered entrance loggias and generous roof overhangs that provide sheltered transition zones while encouraging interaction with the surrounding landscape throughout the year.

Landscape design plays a central role in shaping the experience of the campus. A green belt lined with space-defining trees frames the site along the street and encloses the central open area, creating a cohesive setting for recreation and learning. Around the building, a network of playgrounds, sports fields, and outdoor activity zones offers a variety of experiences tailored to different age groups. The inclusion of a small natural forest enriches this environment, introducing opportunities for exploration and strengthening children’s connection to nature within the daily life of the school.

Internally, the project is organized with clarity and flexibility. Educational spaces and sports facilities are arranged as distinct operational units, allowing each to function independently when necessary. The ground floor accommodates the kindergartens, day school, and cultural room with direct outdoor access, while the upper levels group classrooms around a central multifunctional hall. Cloakrooms and study niches positioned along the façade provide additional spaces for independent learning and informal interaction. Through this combination of efficient planning, timber construction, and landscape integration, the Stöckliacker School Complex presents a contemporary educational environment that supports both structured learning and everyday social engagement.
