Tree Hotel, a unique accommodation designed by Tham & Videgård Arkitekter in Harads, Sweden, near the polar circle, offers a distinctive living experience. Completed in 2010, the project blends modern design with nature, utilizing high-tech materials and creating a refuge that reflects its environment.
A tree hotel in northern Sweden, near Harads village, close to the polar circle.
A lightweight aluminum structure, a 4x4x4 meter box, is suspended around a tree trunk and clad in mirrored glass. The exterior reflects the surroundings and the sky, providing camouflage. The interior, made entirely of plywood, offers 360-degree views through its windows.
The design highlights the relationship between humans and nature, using advanced materials often found in remote, harsh climates (e.g., Gore-tex, Kevlar, composite materials).
The hotel accommodates two people, and features a double bed, a small bathroom, a living room, and a roof terrace. Access is via a rope bridge connected to an adjacent tree.
To prevent bird collisions, the glass panes incorporate a transparent ultraviolet color visible only to birds.
