Villa T-Extension, designed by OFIS in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a 2012 project that added a new living and dining area to the ground floor of a modernistic villa originally designed in 1932 by architect Costaperaria. The extension accommodates a wheelchair-accessible environment for the ground floor resident and his family, incorporating a terrace, parking, and storage space.
Villa Dular is a modernistic villa originally designed in 1932 by architect Costaperaria. This white cube structure features an extensive roof terrace and a top volume finished in wooden cladding. Surrounded by a garden and other similar residences, the villa is currently inhabited by different owners on each floor. The ground-floor family commissioned a redevelopment on the south side of the building. The client, restricted to a wheelchair, lives with his wife, three children, and a dog.
The project involved designing a new extension to the ground floor, adding a dining area and living space, along with covered parking for a car and storage space for bicycles. The client requested that the roof be used as a terrace for the first-floor apartment. All floor surfaces were designed with slopes for wheelchair access.
The T-shaped extension acts as an umbrella over the living space, supporting the terrace on one side and creating a parking roof on the other. The roof over the parking and ramp is a cantilevered pergola covered with light green Perspex panels. The connection between the existing villa and the extension is a glass volume, part of the living space. The sides facing the garden and entry courtyard feature large panoramic glass walls with a framed sliding window in oiled oak.
The cladding of the new extension consists of vertical bleached larch wood in 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4 cm, creating a pleated texture.
