Villa V in T, designed by Beel & Achtergael Architecten, is a residence in a mixed vernacular residential/light industrial street, built in 2009. The house, designed for relaxation and privacy, surrounds an open-air courtyard with a continuous glass wall that opens the interior spaces to this social core. The exterior features smooth white plasterwork with large windows for intimate rooms. The first floor contains business and recreational spaces, including an office and a media room, with distinct windows catching north light and views of the fields.
The client wanted a house where he could relax in calm and privacy among his family and friends and enjoy his extensive art collection. The building site is on a mixed vernacular residential/light industrial street close to the client’s office.
The rear surroundings of the plot are agricultural and offer a quiet perspective, while the front experiences considerable traffic.
In this project, the architects aimed to create “a little world on its own” by arranging all dwelling quarters on the ground floor in a U-shape around an open-air courtyard.
Inside this U-shape, a continuous glass wall opens the generous circulation and living rooms to this “heart,” the social core of the house. Designed for easy living, it is here that guests are invited to enjoy the light, space, and art.
The exterior walls of the building are mostly closed with smooth surfaces of white plasterwork, sparsely punctuated with large windows for the more intimate rooms that cradle the transparent inner space.
The first floor is reserved for business and recreational seclusion. Discrete volumes house an office and a media room, shaping the silhouette of the house. Their distinct windows catch north light and look across the surrounding fields.
