Camping Cala Llevado, designed by DOSARQUITECTES, is located in Costa Brava, Spain. Completed in 2016, the project integrates 33 units of wooden house within a virgin forest, maintaining the natural topography and minimizing environmental impact. Using sustainable materials and innovative design, the wooden houses offer a unique, eco-friendly tourist accommodation with maximum energy efficiency and minimal disruption to the surrounding forest.
Camping Cala Llevadó, one of the most emblematic campsites on Costa Brava, is located near the beaches between Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar. The campsite requested a proposal for 33 units in a virgin forest area at the highest part of the camping site.
Its adjacent to the Massís de Cadiretes natural park. This park comprises mountains of oak, cork, and pine trees extending to the sea.
The project aimed to minimize the environmental impact and preserve the forest’s natural topography and trees.
DOSARQUITECTES proposed minimal terrain impact, avoiding topographical modifications and preserving existing trees. The design aims to immerse clients in the forest while offering maximum services.
The proposal included a round walkway provides access to all wooden houses.
The architects concentrating all installation services (water supplies, drainage, electricity, lighting, fiber optic) under the path to minimize ground disturbance. The walkway followed topographic lines, ensuring accessibility to the houses.
The wooden houses are strategically placed to avoid existing trees, alternating spaces to enhance forest and sea views and provide privacy.
Characteristics of the houses included natural wood construction, 100% demountable and recyclable, and thermal ecological insulation made of black cork boards sourced from the nearby natural park. The houses stood on four wooden columns over small concrete bases.
The south facade featured glass with corridor doors and a cantilevered terrace, allowing winter sun while providing summer shade. Natural cross-ventilation was achieved through sea breezes. Access to the houses was designed to ensure privacy.
Lighting was low-efficiency and LED, with additional energy-saving solutions like automatic energy switch-off and reduced water consumption. House sizes varied from a small unit for two people to larger units accommodating six people.
The urbanization plan aligns with the project, using compact sand for walkway pavement, wooden beams for stairs and kerbs, indirect marker lights for pathways and stairs, and natural gardening with Mediterranean plants.
