Printers for heat transfers buying guide

Printers for Heat Transfers Buying Guide

So, now that you have seen our picks for the 12 top heat transfer printers have you come to a decision yet? We sure hope so! But, if you are still in a fix as to which printer you want to get, fret not, for it’s quite normal to feel confused.

Therefore, to ease your confusion and to help you decide better, we have prepared a detailed buyer’s guide for you. This should cover some of the different crucial aspects to consider before spending your hard-earned cash on a heat transfer printer.

So, we suggest that you keep reading to know what some of these points are.

  1. Type Of Printer

One of the most important aspects that you need to consider is the type of printer that you want. Do you want an inkjet or laser printer for your heat transfer?

Well, inkjet printers are known to be affordable and high-quality. However, you need to keep in mind that they are typically slower than laser printers, offering equally high-quality prints for your heat transfers. Conversely, laser printers are relatively much more expensive, so you also need to keep that in mind.

  1. Type Of Ink

Apart from the printer itself, you need to consider the type of ink that you want to use. Most inkjet printers use liquid dye-based inks, pigment inks, or sublimation inks.

While dye-based inks are cheaper, they tend to fade easily. This is not the case for sublimation inks, though, which typically last longer but are more expensive and difficult to use. Lastly, pigment inks are the most expensive, but they are often water-resistant and do not fade for a long time.

In contrast, laser printers use a type of solid ink known as toner, which is somewhat expensive but can last very long without fading.

  1. Print Quality

It goes without saying that your heat transfer prints need to be of superior quality. For this, you need to ensure that the printer you choose can print at sufficiently high resolutions. That will ensure your heat transfer t-shirts are vibrant and colorful.

Print resolutions are generally measured in dots per inch (dpi). So, if a printer supports high dpi printing, the print quality will automatically be good.

You also need to keep in mind the color accuracy and color reproduction of a printer to ensure your prints are of high quality. In this regard, color printers are obviously a good choice. But there are good monochrome printers with high resolution and clarity that can rival some of the best color printers.

  1. Paper Compatibility

If you want to do heat transfers, you need to make sure that your printer is compatible with heat transfer paper. This is a type of paper designed for heat press fabric printing and is different from regular paper.

So, before you buy a printer, make sure that it can handle heat transfer paper. Otherwise, you’ll just end up buying a device that won’t be able to serve the purpose.

  1. Price

Price is a major factor you must consider while buying a heat transfer printer. It often depends on the type of printer and the features that come with it. Inkjet printers are more affordable than laser printers. And, monochrome printers have a significantly lower price tag than color printers, regardless of printer type.

Furthermore, if a printer has additional features, such as wireless connectivity, all-in-one functionalities, or higher tray capacities, the price of the printer will consequently be higher.

Printers for Heat Transfers Frequently Asked Questions?

Got some lingering questions at the back of your mind, still? If yes, then you’re in luck! Here we have answered some of the most common questions related to heat transfer printing. Read on to see if we were able to answer your question.

  1. Hello,
You’re not alone in suggesting the HP laserjet, but, their is no statement anywhere (mfg or otherwise) that they will print on heat transfer paper and that photo quality is only “good”. I was wondering why it is recommended?
HP makes an iron on transfer, but is not recommended for their laser printer (high heat).
